Summary:

Written Submissions for PE1240

17 March 2009 :   The Committee agreed to seek responses to the issues raised in the petition from the Scottish Government, a selection of local authorities, the Federation of Scottish Aquarist Societies, Fish Veterinary Society, Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Practical Fishkeeping and the Ornamental Aquatic Trade Association.<Link to Official Report 17 March 2009

16 June 2009 :   The Committee agreed to close the petition on the grounds that, submissions received from the Ornamental Aquatic Trade Association Ltd and a number of local authorities indicate that pet shops that sell Betta Splendens adhere to the Pet Animals Act 1951 and the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Further, there is no evidence that this particular species does not receive adequate care by pet retailers. <Link to Official Report 16 June 2009
