SOCIAL INCLUSION, HOUSING AND VOLUNTARY SECTOR COMMITTEE

The meeting opened at 2.15pm
1. Declaration of interests: The oldest member present, Bill Aitken, invited members of the committee to declare any relevant interests. The following members made declarations-
Alex Neil: economic consultant for local enterprise companies andScottish Enterprise;
Robert Brown: partner with Ross Harper and Murphy solicitors in Glasgow; member of the Law Society of Scotland, the Glasgow Bar Association and the Scottish Law Agents Society; a committee member of the executive of Rutherglen and Cambuslang citizens advice bureau and former chairman of the management committee;
Ms Margaret Curran: member of the advisory committee of Women's Aid; member of the advisory committees of a number of local organisations, such as housing associations;
Mike Watson: member of the board of management of the Volunteer Centre in Glasgow;
Mr John McAllion: chair of the Scottish Campaign for the Welfare State; a long standing supporter of Shelter.
2. Convener:The committee chose Ms Margaret Curran as its convener.
3. Remit of committee and topics for informal briefing:The committee debated its remit and considered possible topics on which informal briefings might be sought during the summer recess. It was agreed that the committee would further discuss its work programme at a meeting to be arranged during the recess.
