The meeting opened at 10.00 am.

 

1. Items in private: The Committee agreed to take agenda item 3 in private.

2. 2002/03 Budget Process: The Committee considered the Scottish Executive’s draft budget and took evidence from—

Norma Hart, Chief Executive, Dumfries and Galloway Tourist Board;

John Kilgour, Chairman, Federation of Small Businesses, Dumfries and Galloway branch;

Colin Williamson, Chief Executive, Scottish Enterprise Dumfries and Galloway;

Margaret Burton, Chairperson, Dumfries and Galloway Chamber of Commerce;

Bob Carruth, Regional Policy Adviser, National Farmers’ Union.

The Committee was adjourned from 11.14 am to 11.23 am.

Julian Cowie, Director of Finance, Dumfries and Galloway Council;

Ruth Paterson, Stewartry Council for Voluntary Services;

Mike McLurg, Director, Nithsdale Council for Voluntary Services;

Laura Morrison, Director of Finance, Dumfries and Galloway NHS Board;

Tony Jakimciw, Principal, Dumfries and Galloway College, Dumfries.

The Committee was adjourned from 12.52 pm to 2.16 pm.

3. 2002/03 Budget Process (in private): The Committee discussed its lines of questioning for agenda item 4.

4. 2002/03 Budget Process: The Committee took evidence on the Scottish Executive’s draft budget from Angus MacKay MSP, Minister for Finance and Local Government.

The Committee was adjourned from 4.03 pm to 4.10 pm.

5. The Budget (Scotland) Act 2001 (Amendment) Order 2001 (SSI 2001/draft): The Committee debated motion S1M-2423 in the name of Angus MacKay MSP, Minister for Finance and Local Government and agreed to recommend approval of the draft order to the Parliament.

 

The meeting closed at 4.27 pm.
