The meeting opened at 10.06 am.

  1. Crofting Reform etc. Bill (in private): The Committee considered a draft Stage 1 report and agreed to continue its consideration at its next meeting.

  2. Finnish Presidency of the European Union and the priorities of the Scottish Executive: The Committee took evidence on the priorities of the Scottish Executive as they relate to the Environment and Rural Development portfolio from—

    Ross Finnie MSP, Minister for Environment and Rural Development;

    Neil Ritchie, Animal Health & Welfare Division;

    Charles Milne, Chief Veterinary Officer; and

    Frank Strang, Head of Sea Fisheries, Scottish Executive.

  3. Sustainable development: The Committee took evidence on sustainable development from—

    Ross Finnie MSP, Minister for Environment and Rural Development.

    The Committee agreed to write to the Minister seeking further information on a number of issues.

  4. Subordinate legislation: The Committee considered the following negative instruments—

    the Sea Fishing (Marking and Identification of Passive Fishing Gear and Beam Trawls) (Scotland) Order 2006, (SSI 2006/284); and

    the Pesticides (Maximum Residue levels in Crops, Food and Feeding Stuffs) (Scotland) Amendment (No. 2) Regulations 2006, (SSI 2006/312).

    The Committee agreed, being content with the instruments, to make no recommendation to the Parliament.

The meeting closed at 1.14 pm.
