The meeting opened at 11.51 am.

  1. Item in private: The Committee agreed to take item 5 in private.

  2. Subordinate legislation: The Committee considered the following negative instrument—

    the Seed Potatoes (Fees) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2006 (SSI 2006/264).

    The Committee agreed, being content with the instrument, to make no recommendation to the Parliament.

  3. Subordinate legislation: The Committee considered the following draft code of practice subject to annulment—

    the Pesticides, Code of Practice for Using Plant Protection Products in Scotland (SE/2006/83).

    The Committee agreed, being content with the draft code of practice, to make no recommendation to the Parliament.

  4. Work programme: The Committee considered its future work programme and agreed—

    to put forward a bid to the Conveners’ Group for one of the Chamber debate slots allocated to Committee business to debate the report on its food supply chain inquiry;

    to undertake further work on sustainable development and to take evidence from the Minister for Environment and Rural Development on 21 June;

    to examine the budget of SEPA as the main focus of its scrutiny of the Executive’s draft 2007-08 budget;

    in principle to consider undertaking an inquiry on issues relating to the marine environment and to consider options further at a later meeting; and

    to seek the approval of the Conveners’ Group for an away day at the end of the summer recess.

  5. Food Supply Chain inquiry (in private): The Committee considered and agreed a draft report and agreed arrangements for its publication.

  6. Crofting Reform etc. Bill (in private): The Committee considered a draft Stage 1 report and agreed to continue its consideration at a later meeting.

The meeting closed at 12.29 pm.
