The following Petitions were lodged with the Parliament on 25 August 2008

PE1181 Petition by Helena Coxshall calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to make representations to the UK Government about the cost of fuel in the Western Isles and other rural areas of Scotland which are now amongst the most expensive places in the world to buy petrol or diesel; to highlight in particular the refusal of the UK Government to introduce measures similar to those operating in France which reduce the tax on fuel in very remote areas; to protest at the serious consequences which high fuel prices have for fishermen, motorists and businesses in island and rural areas and to request parity with mainland city prices.

PE1182 Petition by Allana Parker, on behalf of Epilepsy Scotland, calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to increase the number of epilepsy specialist nurses and ensure that all NHS boards provide adequate epilepsy services for adults, children and people with a learning disability.

The following Petition was lodged with the Parliament on 27 August 2008

PE1183 Petition by Keith McCarter, on behalf of the Coopersknowe Residents Association, Galashiels, calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to amend the Planning etc. (Scotland) Act 2006 to introduce a third party right of appeal for communities where the terms of the planning consent pertaining to a development have substantially changed.

The following Petitions were lodged with the Parliament on 28 August 2008

PE1184 Petition by Mrs L Albarracin, on behalf of the Bellahouston Academy Eco Committee, calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to make funding and other assistance available to schools to enable them to become environmentally friendly and achieve green flag status.

PE1185 Petition by Andrew Kaye, on behalf of the Coopersknowe Residents Association, Galashiels, calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to amend relevant legislation to ensure that sewers and drains associated with roads from new developments are included in road bonds and give local authorities enforcement powers in this regard.

The following Petitions were lodged with the Parliament on 29 August 2008

PE1186 Petition by Jean Mullan calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to abolish the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman and replace it with a transparent organisation accountable to the people.

PE1187 Petition by Greig Muir calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to reconsider its plans to raise the age for off-sales alcohol purchases from 18 to 21.
