S2W-8185 Jeremy Purvis: To ask the Scottish Executive, further to the answer to question S1W-31063 by Mr Jim Wallace on 2 December 2002, which meetings of the European Council it has attended since 1999.

S2W-8188 Rob Gibson: To ask the Scottish Executive what action it is taking to address the decrease in the number of young people in the Highlands and Islands in light of figures from the General Register Office for Scotland that state that by the year 2018 there could be a 50% decrease in young people living there.

S2W-8196 Donald Gorrie: To ask the Scottish Executive, further to the answer to question S2W-7400 by Mr Frank McAveety on 4 May 2004, who will be involved in developing the National Language Strategy referred to in the answer.

S2W-8197 Mr Kenny MacAskill: To ask the Scottish Executive what the current average turnaround time is for applications to Disclosure Scotland for background checks; what the extent of any backlog is and when it is anticipated that such backlog will be cleared, and whether it will seek to standardise practices between local authorities regarding the employment of people prior to clearance being given.

S2W-8198 Mr Kenny MacAskill: To ask the Scottish Executive in which countries VisitScotland, rather than VisitBritain, (a) has been and (b) will be the lead agency in selling and marketing Scotland in each year from 1999 to 2005.

S2W-8199 Mr Kenny MacAskill: To ask the Scottish Executive whether it made any submissions to the recent European Union consultation on public service obligation routes for airlines and, if so, whether it will publish its submissions and, if it made no submission, what the reasons are for its position on the matter.

S2W-8200 Mr Kenny MacAskill: To ask the Scottish Executive what sums allocated to Transport Initiatives Edinburgh will be spent on (a) the public inquiry into congestion charging and (b) administration prior to the tram lines being constructed.

S2W-8201 Mr Kenny MacAskill: To ask the Scottish Executive what regulations there are in respect of discotheques for young people under 18; what monitoring there is of such discotheques, and what changes will follow from the implementation of the Nicholson report and any other planned regulatory changes in this area.

S2W-8202 Donald Gorrie: To ask the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body, further to the answer to question S2W-7796 by Duncan McNeil on 13 May 2004, how it is decided whether any classroom-based course being offered to its staff is appropriate to MSPs' staff and who makes such decisions.

S2W-8203 Donald Gorrie: To ask the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body whether it will provide MSPs with a staff training and development budget to enable them to provide similar personal and career development opportunities to their staff to those offered to staff directly employed by it.

S2W-8204 Donald Gorrie: To ask the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body what the legal basis is for its rules regarding the activities of MSPs' staff during elections.

S2W-8205 Shona Robison: To ask the Scottish Executive how many NHS patients requiring a cardiac in-patient or daycase procedure were treated outwith the United Kingdom in each quarter since March 2003, broken down by the NHS board area in which the patient resided.

S2W-8206 Robert Brown: To ask the Scottish Executive when it will introduce legislation to establish a Scottish Human Rights Commission, as referred to in A Partnership for a Better Scotland.

S2W-8207 Mr Kenny MacAskill: To ask the Scottish Executive whether the post of the Chair of Scottish Arts Council will be advertised and, if so, when.

S2W-8208 Mr Kenny MacAskill: To ask the Scottish Executive what discussions it has had with (a) British Airways and (b) the Department for Transport regarding direct flights from Scotland.

S2W-8209 Mr Adam Ingram: To ask the Scottish Executive which hospitals are still operating mixed sex-wards and, of these, which are used specifically for psychiatric care.

S2W-8210 Mr Adam Ingram: To ask the Scottish Executive when it now expects the programme to end mixed sex wards to be completed.

S2W-8211 Mr Kenny MacAskill: To ask the Scottish Executive which parts of the current ScotRail franchise contract documentation are publicly available; which parts are not publicly available, expressed as a percentage of the total contract, and why; where the contract can be accessed and how, and what the position will be in respect of the public availability of the new contract.

S2W-8212 Fergus Ewing: To ask the Scottish Executive what the estimate is of the final expenditure under the 2003 fishing vessel decommissioning scheme and, if this is less than the total of 40 million, whether the unused surplus will be earmarked for other financial assistance to the fishing industry and, if not, for what purpose it will be used.

S2W-8213 Ms Rosemary Byrne: To ask the Scottish Executive whether proposed changes to the shared care scheme for drug users in Glasgow comply with the legislation relating to the change of an NHS service.

S2W-8214 Ms Rosemary Byrne: To ask the Scottish Executive how much funding in each local authority area has been allocated through Sure Start.

S2W-8215Δ Mr Duncan McNeil: To ask the Scottish Executive when it will publish a revised smallpox action plan.

S2W-8216Δ Maureen Macmillan: To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will report on the outcome of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council held in Brussels on 24 May 2004.

S2W-8218 Ms Rosemary Byrne: To ask the Scottish Executive when broadband will be available to all communities in the Borders.

S2W-8219Δ Rhona Brankin: To ask the Scottish Executive whether it plans to publish the report of the Religious Observance Review Group.

S2W-8220 Miss Annabel Goldie: To ask the Scottish Executive whether the national curriculum provides for schools to allow pupils aged 14 and over to pursue supplementary education in further education colleges and, if so, which schools are participating in such a scheme.

S2W-8221 Mr Kenny MacAskill: To ask the Scottish Executive what the precise capacity increase will be in the maximum and optimum number of trains able to access Waverley Station per hour following the upgrade of the station; whether the upgraded station will allow all of the proposed new lines to access the station at the level of service proposed, and whether it is anticipated that further capacity increase will be necessary once the upgrade of the station has been completed and, if so, when such future capacity will be addressed and what the cost and extent of such works are likely to be.

S2W-8222 Stewart Stevenson: To ask the Scottish Executive, further to the answer to question S2W-7886 by Mr Jim Wallace on 12 May 2004, what the average level of debt held after leaving university by former students was in each year since 1999.

S2W-8223 Mr Kenny MacAskill: To ask the Scottish Executive how many children participated in (a) football, (b) rugby, (c) athletics, (d) hockey, (e) basketball, (f) volleyball, (g) swimming, (h) karate and (i) judo in each year since 1999, broken down by gender, school and level.

S2W-8224 Tricia Marwick: To ask the Scottish Executive whether it intends to give parents a legal right to choose Gaelic medium education through the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Bill.

S2W-8236Δ Rhona Brankin: To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will clarify its position in respect of the alcohol controls imposed at designated sporting events played at designated sports grounds under the Criminal Law (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act 1995.
