Today's Business

Members may wish to note that this week's Business Motion S1M-3719 will be taken this afternoon just before Decision Time and not on Thursday.

Question Time on 9 January 2003

The Parliament agreed on 14 November 2002 that Rules 13.6.4 and 13.6.7 be suspended for the purpose of Question Time on Thursday 9 January 2003. The purpose of this decision was to enable an alternative deadline to be set for the lodging of questions for Question Time on 9 January, as Wednesday 1 January is a public holiday when the Office of the Clerk will be closed.

The Parliamentary Bureau has agreed that the deadline for lodging questions for Question Time on 9 January 2003 will be 5.00 pm on Monday 23 December. Questions can be lodged now and until then. The random selection of questions will be done on the morning of 24 December.

There was no need to suspend the rule relating to the lodging of First Minister’s questions as the deadline is later than for other oral questions. Questions for First Minister’s Question Time on 9 January can be lodged from the end of First Minister’s Question Time on 19 December until 2.00 pm on Monday 6 January.

Business Bulletins during the Christmas Period

The final Business Bulletin for 2002 will be published on Friday 20 December 2002. Members may wish to note that the next Business Bulletin will be published on Monday 6 January 2003.

Chamber Desk Arrangements in Christmas Recess

The Chamber Desk will be open from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm on Monday 23 December. It will then close from 12 noon on Tuesday 24 December until Friday 3 January 2003. On 3 January it will be open from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm before returning to normal arrangements on Monday 6 January.

Title Conditions (Scotland) Bill

The third day of consideration of the Bill at Stage 2 will be on Tuesday 14 January 2003. The Committee anticipates that this will conclude Stage 2 proceedings. The deadline for lodging amendments for the 3rd Marshalled List is 2.00 pm on Friday 10 January.

Royal Assent

The Debt Arrangement and Attachment (Scotland) Act 2002 (asp 17) received Royal Assent on 17 December 2002.
