TUESDAY 9 NOVEMBER 2010—Scottish Government—

  • Will you “formally and publicly apologise for the ill treatment by governments and public bodies of the Scottish Gypsy Traveller community, with evidence clearly showing it to be one of the most marginalised and discriminated communities” as called for in the petition?

  • Do you accept that there is a discrimination/persecution against the gypsy traveller community in Scotland which goes back hundreds of years?

  • On the broader aspects of the petition, what measures are you taking to encourage local authorities and others to follow your lead in recognising Gypsies/Travellers as an ethnic group? Are such measures working on the ground?

  • what detailed actions have you taken in response to the recommendations contained in the two inquiries conducted by the Equal Opportunities Committee into Gypsy Travellers and Public Sector Policies and on Preliminary Findings on Gypsy/Travellers - Review of Progress?
