Introduction
The Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee is the lead committee on the Scottish Register of Tartans Bill.
This Member’s Bill was introduced to the Scottish Parliament on 25 March 2008 by Jamie McGrigor MSP and seeks to establish a Scottish register of Tartans and require a Keeper of the Register of Tartans to maintain and oversee the Register and new registrations. It also sets out the process for registering new tartan designs in the Register.

A call for written evidence was issued by the Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee seeking views on the general principles of the Bill The deadline for receiving written evidence was 5.00 pm on Wednesday 7 May 2008. The Committee took oral evidence on the Bill on 14 May.
