Petition calling for the Scottish Parliament to enable Caledonian MacBrayne the state owned Scottish Ferry company to take over the Campbeltown to Ballycastle route which is critically important to the fragile economies of Argyll and Antrim.

Summary:

9 May 2000 :   The Public Petitions Committee agreed to seek the views of the Minister for Transport and the Environment on the petition. The Committee also agreed to pass the petition to the Transport and Environment Committee and the Rural Affairs Committee to note. In addition, the Committee also asked that the Clerk write to the petitioner seeking further information on the urgency of the issues in the petition. 

23 May 2000 :   The Public Petitions Committee agreed to pass the response from Russ McLean to the Transport and Environment Committee and the Rural Affairs Committee. 

26 September 2000 :   The Public Petitions Committee considered a response from the Scottish Executive. It was agreed that the response was positive and that the Clerk should copy it to the petitioner and suggest that any further representations should be made to the Scotland Office given the reserved nature of this matter. The Committee also agreed to pass the petition and response to the Transport and Environment Committee and the Rural Affairs Committee for information only.
