17 March 2009 :   The Committee agreed to seek responses to the issues raised in the petition from the Scottish Government, Scottish Interfaith Council, Equality Network, Humanist Society of Scotland and the Pagan Federation (Scotland).<Link to Official Report 17 March 2009  

16 June 2009 :   The Committee agreed to suspend consideration of the petition. In suspending the petition, the Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government and the Equality Network seeking further responses on specific issues. <Link to Official Report 16 June 2009

2 March 2010 :   The Committee agreed to await the outcome of the Schalk & Kopf v. Austria court case to ascertain whether that has any influence on the Scottish Government's position on the issue of same sex marriage and to then seek an update from it. <Link to Official Report 2 March 2010 

23 November 2010 :   The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government seeking a response to specific points. Link to Official Report 23 November 2010" 

25 January 2011 :   The Committee agreed to close the petition under Rule 15.7 of Standing Orders on the grounds that the Scottish Government has repeated on six successive occasions that it has no plans to change the law in this area and that it is not a priority. In addition, in response to specific points raised by the Committee, the Scottish Government has responded that it does not consider it necessary to conduct research to ascertain how the constitutional difficulties attached to same sex marriage can be resolved and that it does not consider it helpful to establish an advisory committee at this point in time.
