Remit/Background

The Committee agreed at its meeting on 13 December 2005 that it would conduct a short inquiry into the financial implications of the Local Authority Single Status Agreement.

The Committee wrote to all 32 local authorities, to COSLA and to the relevant trade unions asking them to estimate the costs of implementing the Agreement focusing specifically on equal pay issues.

At its meeting on 24 January 2006 the Committee then took oral evidence from three local authorities – Glasgow City Council, Fife Council and North Lanarkshire Council and from COSLA.  This was followed by an evidence session with the trade unions – Unison, the T&G and GMB on 31 January 2006.  Finally, the Committee took evidence from the Minister for Finance and Public Sector Reform at its meeting on 21 February 2006
