NOTE OF DECISIONS TAKEN AT THE MEETING OF THE PARLIAMENTARY BUREAU: 24 JUNE 2003 AT 2.30 PM

1. Future business programme

It was agreed to recommend to the Parliament revised business for the current week and a future business programme for week commencing 1 September 2003. (for text of motion see Section F of the Business Bulletin for 25 June 2003)

2. Procedural Motions

It was agreed to recommend to the Parliament that the Justice 1 Committee be

designated as lead committee to consider the following instruments:

The Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act 2003 (Savings and Transitional Provisions) Order 2003;

The Drugs Court (Scotland) Order 2003.

3. Designation of Lead Committee: Vulnerable Witnesses (Scotland) Bill –

Stage 1 Referral

The Bureau agreed to recommend to the Parliament that the Justice 2

Committee be designated lead committee for consideration at Stage 1 of the

Vulnerable Witnesses (Scotland) Bill. The Bureau also referred the bill to the

Subordinate Legislation Committee for consideration of the delegated powers

provisions.

4. Referral to Lead Committee: Primary Medical Services (Scotland) Bill –

Stage 1 Referral

The Bureau agreed to refer the Primary Medical Services (Scotland) Bill to the

Health Committee for consideration at Stage 1. The Bureau also referred the

bill to the Subordinate Legislation Committee for consideration of the

delegated powers provisions.

5. Stirling-Alloa-Kincardine Railway and Linked Improvements Bill –

Establishment of a Private Bill Committee

A Private Bill Committee was required to consider the Stirling-Alloa-Kincardine Railway and Linked Improvements Bill. The Bureau agreed that it would recommend to the Parliament in due course that the Convener be a member of the Labour Party and the Deputy Convener be a member of the Scottish National Party. It was also agreed that the Bureau consider other issues such as membership at its next meeting.

6. Next Meeting

The next Bureau meeting would be at 2.30 pm on Tuesday 26 August 2003.
