*S1M-1731 Trish Godman: Ferguson's Shipyard-That the Parliament offers its warm congratulations to the management and workforce of Ferguson's shipyard in Port Glasgow for winning against intense competition the contract, worth 23.5 million, to build a fisheries research vessel for the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food; notes that an earlier fisheries research vessel built at this Port Glasgow yard is judged by naval architects to be amongst the top three such vessels in the world, and believes that this order shows very clearly that this is an excellent shipyard.

*S1M-1730 Trish Godman: Commonwealth Day-That the Parliament, as a new member of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and along with all other parliaments and assemblies of the Commonwealth, pays tribute to the Commonwealth on Commonwealth Day, Monday 12 March, and seeks to encourage people of all ages to join together to both increase international understanding and protect democratic institutions where they are under threat so that we can all live in tolerable societies.

*S1M-1729 Johann Lamont: Glasgow Women's Library - 10th Anniversary-That the Parliament joins, on International Women's Day on 8 March 2001, with women across Scotland in celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Glasgow Women's Library; commends the Glasgow Women's Library for its volunteer training programme which supports and encourages women to develop their confidence and skills, and encourages support for the Glasgow Women's Library in its plans for expansion into a recognised national resource as the Women's Library for Scotland.

*S1M-1728 Mr Tom McCabe on behalf of the Parliamentary Bureau: Business Motion-That the Parliament agrees that the time for consideration of Stage 3 of the Leasehold Casualties (Scotland) Bill be allocated as follows, so that debate on the proceedings, if not previously brought to a conclusion, shall be brought to a conclusion on the expiry of the specified period (calculated from the time when Stage 3 begins)-

Motion to pass the Bill - no later than 30 minutes.

*S1M-1726.1 Fergus Ewing: Crisis in Rural Scotland-As an amendment to motion (S1M-1726) in the name of Alex Johnstone, insert at end "; further resolves that the urgent priority in this crisis is to contain and eradicate foot and mouth disease by means of a policy of slaughter of infected animals, disinfection and movement control; notes that the nature and extent of restrictions upon life in rural communities should be based upon advice from the Chief Veterinary Officer; recognises that the restrictions are creating real financial hardship for those working in tourism, haulage and many other related industries in rural Scotland, and calls upon the Scottish Executive and Her Majesty's Government, once the outbreak is brought under control, to consider as a matter of urgency the plight of all of those whose livelihood has been materially affected as a result of this crisis.

*S1M-1724 Mr Gil Paterson: Schools Repairs Fund-That the Parliament notes the considerable outstanding repair bill faced by Scottish schools which in some cases have been allowed to fall into an unacceptable state of disrepair simply because local authorities cannot afford the necessary investment for improvement; draws attention to Airdrie Academy as an example of a school whose major repair requirements have provoked a crisis; and calls on the Scottish Executive to allocate funding for a schools repair contingency fund to ensure that local authorities can afford to educate our children in decent and safe surroundings.
